Databricks acquires Electric to give every AI agent its own Postgres database

Databricks has acquired Electric, the startup behind the WASM-based Postgres project PGlite and a real-time sync engine, to enhance its Lakebase database service and support agentic applications. Electric's team will join Neon, a serverless Postgres company Databricks acquired last year. Electric's hosted service will be discontinued, but its open-source projects remain available.
