Former SpaceX engineers are building a robotic factory for making steel parts

Three former SpaceX engineers founded 1872, a startup aiming to automate steel part manufacturing using AI and robotics. They opened Factory One in Cincinnati in July 2026 to prototype mostly autonomous production of steel skids for modular buildings, targeting industries like AI data centers and nuclear reactors. The initiative addresses skilled labor shortages in welding and fabrication sectors.
