Kanishka Narayan becomes the UK’s first cabinet-level AI minister

Kanishka Narayan was promoted to the UK cabinet as the first minister for artificial intelligence, reflecting the new prime minister Andy Burnham's focus on AI. This change coincides with the dissolution of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, whose functions were merged into a broader economic ministry. Narayan, an MP since July 2024 with a strong tech background, previously served as junior minister for AI and online safety.
