Microsoft starts swapping OpenAI and Anthropic out for its own AI in some apps

Microsoft is gradually replacing OpenAI and Anthropic AI models with its own MAI models in some app features to reduce costs and address data residency concerns. While OpenAI and Anthropic still handle most Copilot traffic, Microsoft is leveraging its MAI models where economically advantageous, following a 2025 contract renegotiation that allowed it to build competing AI models.
