OpenAI disrupted a scam network based in Poipet, Cambodia, that exploited ChatGPT to run various fraud schemes including investment, romance, gambling, and law enforcement impersonation. The network used AI to create fake personas, generate messages, and manage administrative tasks. OpenAI worked with WhatsApp to investigate and ban the coordinated accounts.
