Spain gives WeRide and Uber its first permit for Level 4 self-driving cars

WeRide, Uber, and AVOMO received Spain's first national permit for Level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles, allowing testing and preparation for commercial robotaxi operations in Madrid by late 2026. The permit covers 20 WeRide GXR vehicles with onboard specialists, marking the first EU national approval for this model and the start of Uber and WeRide's European autonomous deployment.
