Texas Governor Greg Abbott has imposed a moratorium on new AI data center approvals to address the state's inadequate power grid, which cannot support the massive planned expansion. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas reports over 1,800 data center projects in queue, demanding more than five times the grid's peak capacity, raising concerns about energy reliability and environmental impact.
