The US Army's special drone unit is returning to airborne infantry work. Officials say that was always the plan.

The US Army's Unmanned Assault Battalion, formed last fall within the 173rd Airborne Brigade to experiment with drone warfare and gather lessons from Ukraine, is returning to its original airborne infantry role as planned. Officials clarify the drone-focused role was always temporary, aimed at testing uncrewed systems and tactics.
